TO TAKE PEACE ON SATURDAY.

A meeting of the Reception Committee was held in the Council Chamber yesterday afternoon, to consider reply to be forwarded to the following telegram received by Mr Fraser from the „Hon. Dr. Findlay ; “As you may have seen from the newspapers, I have undertaken to deliver a political address at Feilding on Friday nightThis prevents my accepting the honour ol a banquet at Foxton that night. I could conveniently be in Foxton for lunch on Saturday. I could come through by motor car from Feilding, so as to enable me to be in Foxton by halfpast twelve. lam assuming that the roads will permit a motor to get through. I could open the Post Office either before or after lunch, as best suits you. Will you let me know by collect wire whether this proposal would be convenient.’’

There were present: Mr Stiles (chairman), Drs. Adams and Mandl, Messrs Levett, Rimmer, Speirs and Fraser. It was decided to get Dr Findlay to officially open the post office immediately on his arrival at Foxton, and afterwards entertain him at lunch, after which the several deputations will wait upon him. A telegram to this effect was forwarded to the Minister. It was resolved that the luncheon be • held in the Council Chamber, and Mr Levett was appointed to supervise the catering. The price of tickets was fixed at 7s fid. The toast list and musical programme were drawn up, and the erection of a staging in front of the Post Office, to accommodate the Minister and members of the Reception Committee was left in the hands of Messrs Rimmer and Speirs. '
