GOVERNMENT CRITICISED.
BY THE OPPOSITION DEADER.
Wetj.xngton, Friday
Mr Massey, Reader of the Opposition, speaking at the inaugural dance of the women’s branch of the Political Reform Reague tonight, said he was glad to see the women taking an interest in politics on the right side. There would shortly be branches of the Reague in every part of the Dominion. Though the Riberals had increased the public debt by thirty millions, money was scarcer than ever and there was a difficulty in making both ends meet. Numbers are unemployed and the best people were leaving the Dominion. This was the result of 18 years’ Riberal legislation. It was discreditable and unsatisfactory. He did not say Riberals had ruined the country. New Zealand was too good a country for that, but whether intentionally or not they had done their best to do so. Parliament must put the country’s finances in a sound position and land settlement must be encouraged.
