BOXING.
JEFFRIES WIFE MEET JOHNSON.
New York, July 29,
Reuter’s correspondent states that Jeffries has deposited with the promoters of the John-son-Jeffries match as an evidence of his willingness to fight the champion.
The theatre at Hastings was crowded to overflowing on Thursday night, when the professional boxing contest for the light-weight championship of New Zealand and a purse of 75 sovs. was decided between Bob Turner, gst rolb, of Sydney, and Tim Tracy, gst xolb, of Wellington. At the close of the fifteenth round the referee (Mr Whatman) said there was little to choose between the two men, and declared the fight a draw. In the contest between Bert Murphy, of Hastings, and Bob Marks, of Gisborne, the latter was counted out in the second round. The four-round spar for a trophy between W. Crawford, of Gisborne, and H. McUisky, of Hastings, resulted in favour of Crawford.
