WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.
Tlie monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Wednesday.
Present: Messrs Fred. Pirani (chairman), Alf. Fraser, G. H. Bennett, E. Dixon, F. Purnell, W. C. Cargill, D. H. Guthrie, M.P., J. Aldridge. Leave of absence was granted to Mr B. Brennand, Feilding (another fortnight), to attend examination ; Miss M. Lynch, Moutoa ; Miss N. Dowling, Waituna; Misses E. G. and M. F. Arts, Hawera; I. Rhodes, Taibape. Transfers of head teachers approved : Mr R. G. Jackson, Foxton ; Mr W. Adams, Mangaweka ; Mr G. E. Oveiton, Tokorangi; Miss N. Dowling, Makohau ; Mr A. S. Harper, Spur Road; MissC. Hanron, Waitohi ; Miss A. M. Baron, Waipuru; Mr F. E- Rockel, Tararua; Mr C. N. O’Leary, Porewa; Mr W. Buckler, Coal Creek; Mr G. A. Robbie, Patea ; Mr A. E. Barraclough, Auroa.
Transfers of assistants confirmed : Miss F. Grant, Kaitoke; Mr H, F. Gabites, Foxton (from Ist September): Miss M. Campion, Cheltenham ; Miss J. Sinclair, Waituna West; Mr Trevena and Miss Walton, Lytton-street. Pupil teachers appointed :—B Taylor, Aramoho; M. Tremewan, Campbell - street; F. J. Peters, Longburn; W. F. Gilligau, Campbell-street; F. Smith, Hawera; J. Smith, Eltham; J. Kelliher, Hunterville; W. Bates, Hawera, . Moutoa. —It was resolved to reply that the Board has no funds. The school to be put on the painting list. £ for £upto £2 15s for closets.
The Chief Inspector was authorised to issue a circular to teachers with regard to the inefficiency of physical drill instruction in some schools.
The Chief Inspecter was authorised to make arrangements for pupil teacher classes for science, singing and drawing at Feilding and other centres. The financial statement showed an overdraft of while accounts totalling were passed for payment. An application for another school near Himatangi was refused, as it was only two miles from the existing school. The regulations were finally adopted for approval of the Minister, and ordered to be printed.
Mr P. O’Dea wrote in reference to the refusal of voting papers to the Mangamahu School Committee.—The Chairman said that the Board had no right to interfere with the Returning Officer. He had acted on legal advice, and apparently, correctly.
Mr G. H. Guthrie, M.P., moved —“That the Board fully endorse the suggestion of the Chief Inspector re • compulsory military training and technical instruction, and that a copy of this report be forwarded to the Minister of Education for, his, cprjsidgra£iGfi- J-,ex-prss-i&sg’- HieTiope that he he may" be able to give effect to them in the near future.” This was seconded by Mr Fraser and carried. In reply to a protest from the Campbell - street (Palmerston) Committee against the transfer of Mr H. F. Gabites, it was decided to point out that the promotion was deserved. It was decided to instruct the Board’s solicitors to take the necessary steps to complete the title to the Glen Oroua school site.
