Saturday’s fixture completed the third round of the competition for the Austin Banner, and the first round for the Coley Cup. Through Albion forfeiting on Saturday Rougotea gains two points in each competition. The position of the teams in both competitions are as follows:—

Momo returned to Foxton on Friday from the Wairarapa, where he has been playing for the Gladstone team. In all probability be will don the green and white jersey in Albion’s future matches. The representative match played at Wanganui on Saturday, between Wanganui and Awarua, resulted in an easy win for the home team by 21 points to six. It is reported that the referee, Mr Bell, made au awful showing. He did not favour either side, but his knowledge of the game was very limited.

At Palmerston Kia Toa defeated Palmerston by 14 points to 3.

The following are the results of the matches played in Wellington, on Saturday:—

Petone 18 v. St. James 7, Athletic 13 v. Melrose o, Poneke r 6 v. Oriental ii, Southern 6 v. Old Boys 3, Wellington 3 v. Victoria College 3. Sydney, July 25. The Moari team played the first match of their tour yesterday, defeating New South Wales by 24 points-to 21. There were present about 20,000. The visitors were two heavy for their opponents. Wharepapa time after time hurdled over the backs’ heads to reach the line. The Maoris were outclassed in passing, but the game was hard throughout. The most prominent of the Maoris were Wharepapa, H. Pakere, P. Pakere, and Ratete.

At half-time New South Wales had scored 13 points to the Maoris 9. In the second half the Maori forwards got moving, and rapidly altered the complexion of the game, finishing three points ahead.
