FIERCE FIGHTING.
Morocco, July 25
Fierce fighting took place in Morocco on Friday, between the tribesmen and Spaniards. Six Spanish officers were killed, a Lieut.-Colonel was captured, and 12 officers were wounded. The number of privates killed has not been ascertained, but there are many wounded. The Spanish troops abandoned their advanced positions, owing to the impossibility of entrenching quickly enough. The Kabyle tribesmen lost heavily. t
London, July 24.
The Spanish Government is censoring telegrams from Madrid. Letters show that women and children were trampled under foot, and that many were severely injured during the departure of the troops, which soldiers’ families were trying, to prevent. King Alfonso was hooted during his farewell visit to the barracks. He has postponed his visit to England.
The authorities have prohibited meetings promoted to protest against the war. The Times says that the Spanish Government is determined to despatch troops to Meiilla till the resistance of the Moors is overcome.
