TOWN CLERK S REPORT.
At last night’s Council meeting the Town Clerk reported that 249 yards of the Terrace End gravel had been received, and had been placed on the various roads. ,One truck of Tiakitahuna gravel had been placed on Harbour and Wharf Streets, The instructions of the Reserves Committee with regard to the alterations of pound fence and approach, have been given effect to,' the work requiring some 35 new posts and four strainers (one of the strainers and one post from south end of triangle having been stolen over night). The pound shed had also been repaired. v
He had waited on Mrs Howe in reference to the sections owned by her at the west end of Reeve ( St, There are two sections, each halfacres. and the lowest price Mrs Howe will accept for the land is or she will sell quarter acre sections at the same rale, viz., each.
The 18-inch drain pipes ordered for Helta Street have come to hand, and are to be placed in position as soon as the men have done the work immediately ahead of them, which is to protect corners of footpaths at Park and Robinson Streets, Park and Thynne Streets, and Union and Johnson Streets, and fill hole at latter corner, after which, unless stopped by metalling work, it is proposed to go on with filling ruts and trimming up various roads, commencing with Robinson Street. Having failed to get trees Irom Stale farm at Weraroa for street planting, as decided by the Council, I have written to nurserymen in Wanganui, Palmerston and Wellington, for prices and description ot suitable trees. The report was adopted.
