FOOTBALL.
Owing to the extremely rough weather on Saturday afternoon, h special meeting of the executive of the local Sub-Union was held, to consider whether the match set down for decision should be played or postponed. It was decided to postpone it until next Saturday. The other fixture for the third round, Albion and Rongotea, to have been played next Saturday, will therefore be postponed until the 24th inst. It was also decided to leave the selecting of the “rep” team to play Manawatu on the 17th inst., until after next Saturday’s match.
It was rather hard luck for the Awahou team that the weather on Saturday was too bad for the match to be played, as they had a very strong team ready to take the field. Osboldstone, who had played for them all the season, last week secured a situation in Wanganui, and had travelled all the way from there to help his Club in this important match. Several other of their players had also come in from the country, and it was anticipated that if the match had been played on Saturday, Awahou would have been represented by the strongest team they have had this season.
Mr George Coley has kindly promised to donate a cup to the Club securing most points in the third and fourth round of the SubUnion’s competition. The trophy will become the property of the Club winning it either twice in succession, or three times at intervals. The three Clubs are on almost equal footing as regards this cup, as only one match in the third round has been played—between Awahou a,nd Rougotea, which resulted in a draw, so that both these teams have one point each to their credit, while Albions' will play their first game in the third round on Saturday. Mr ■Gotey- has- always -tafeee -.a. great, interest in local football, having at different times donated several trophies, and has also helped Jhe Clubs taking part, by donations, etc.
