MOUTOA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Moutoa School Committee was held last night. Present;— Messrs A. Saunders (chairman), M.Newth, W. Dudson and A. Wallace. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and a number of small accounts were passed for payment. The Chairman explained that necessary improvements to outbuildings were satisfactorily carried out. The assistant teacher, Miss Dynch, had been granted two months leave of absence on ac-count-of ill-health; Miss Northelver, recently from England, being temporarily appointed in her place. A number of scholars live about three miles from the school. To these the Board’s subsidy for a conveyance to take the children to and from school would be available, but after careful consideration, the committeefind that there are not sufficient scholars over, the prescribed distance, so nothing can, for the present be done.—-It was resolved to observe Arbor Day this year. A number of improvements have taken place of late, and, in order to meet the expenditure, the genial headmaster, Mr Galland, will’Undertake to work up' a concert to be held shortly in Dr Wall’s Hall, and also to train the children for a juvenile concert latercm.
