S.M. COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS,
The following are the returns of the amount of business transacted at the local S.M. Court for thq quarter ended Juu; 30th 1909 : There were three sittings of the court held before the magistrate,, Mr Thomson, and 12 before local justices. Civil, BUSINESS. The number of cases heard before the Magistrate was 48, and the total amount sued for was £372 18s id, the sum - recovered amounted to 3s Bd. Two applications were heard in Chambers, 51 plaints were entered, 8 distress warrants and 10 judgment summons were issued, 101 sum- f mouses were served by the bailiffs and 22 warrants were executed. The amount paid in civil fees was &7 17s. CRIMINAL BUSINESS. Forty-two persons were taken into custody or summoned, of which three of the cases were withdrawn, two dismissed, 30 fined, six orders made, and one person was convicted and discharged. The total amount of criminal fees paid in stamps was ,£34 12s.
OLD AGE PENSIONS. Eleven old age pensions were granted and one is pending.
