EDUCATION BOARD.

Wanganui, This Day. A special meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held last night. Present: Messrs Pirani (chairman), Aldridge, Bennett, Cargill, Dixon, Fraser, Guthrie and Purnell.

The selection committee’s report was received.

Appointments :—T. A. Blyth, Ohakune ; E. Goldsbury, Taonui; G. A. Robbie, Patea. Resignations W. M. Gordon, Foxton ; G- D. Mackay, Kaitoki ; A. L- Symth, Cheltenham and Miss Inkpen,

Transfers: —H. Greenaway, Himatangi; application received, Mr E. J. Patterson applied to remain at Winiata and a petition to that effect from the residents was also received, but it was decided to reply that the jßoard’s instructions must be carried out.

Foxton—Resolved to reply to Mr Jackson that the Board will consider the appointment at next meeting. It was decided to inform Miss Slattery that the Board will consider her application when there is a vacancy, and also to inform Mr Adams that the Board consider the chairman’s reply sufficient.

Leave of absence was granted to E. McMeeckan, J. Rhodes and A. Hall.

Technical school.—Mr L. W. Watkins who is in England has been appointed director of the southern district and takes up his duties on December 1 next.

Accounts amounting to 18s 3d were passed for payment and the Board then adjourned tilll 28th July. Mr Dixon extended to members a hearty invitation to attend the opening of the : new technical school at Hawera, which takes place the day following the next Board meeting.
