“ TATTERSALL’S.”
The Federal Postmaster-General has been asked by the Premier ot Tasmania to withdraw the prohibition orders against firms in the State on condition that they give guarantees that they will not become a medium for consultations. Mr Thomas replied that when the guarantees are submitted they will be sent to the Crown Solicitor, who will decide whether they are satisfactory. The secretary of the commercial travellers’ organisation in Melbourne had an interview with the Minister in respect to a prohibition against the Commercial Travellers’ Club in Hobart, He assured the PostmasterGeneral that the organisation, with its branches all over Australia, had no sympathy with any infractions of the law. Without dealing with the question whether the club in Hobart had justly incurred the department’s action, he declared that the sympathy of the association was with the department in seeking to have the law observed. Mr Thomas expressed his gratification at the assurance ot support from so influential a body.
