A BOY’S DEATH

Auckland, June 20,

At the inquest on the boy Edward Dillon, whose body was recovered from the harbour, the circumstances pointing to suicide, a verdict was returned 'that he met his death by jumping into the water while temporarily insane. He had been subject to fits.

Mr Prickitt, the American Consul, says he knows nothing about the claim for half a million reported to be made by the American Government in connection with lands north of Auckland. He discredits the report.

At the inquest touching the death of the late Mrs Robson, who perished in a fire at Porangahau, the verdict returned was that deceased was burnt to death, but there was no evidence to show how the fire originated.. The Jury also added a rider expressing dissatisfaction at the delay of the Police Department in not sending a constable out sooner, it being 18 hours after the message was sent from Porangahau before the constable arrived. Westport, June 19. Evidence of the scarcity of employment in New Zealand is supplied by the fact that over forty applications have been received from all parts of the country for the position of caretaker of the Westport Club, at a year. > Christchurch, June 20. * Two lads, aged respectively 18 and 16, broke into Kiddey’s bicycle shop this morning. They were observed, and the police were informed. The lads escaped from the shop on to the roof of adjoining premises, and took refuge in a large hay loft. They were discovered after an hour’s search and arrested.
