LEVIN-FOXTON-MARTON RAILWAY.
Mr Field has given notice to ask the Minister for Public Works whether the Government the importance of constructing the Deviu-Foxton-Marton deviation of the North Island Main Trunk railway, recognising the telling facts that it will save some sixteen, miles in the distance between Wellington and Auckland, that it traverses flat, and fertile land at present uuserved by any railway, that it will obviate several inclines on the present line, that a large portion of the deviation is already constructed in the form of the Sandon Tramway, and that the deviation is one which will benefit not only the district through which it passes, but the Dominion as a whole ; whether the Minister will himself inspect the route of the proposed deviation before next session ; and whether he will inform the House what the Government proposals (if any) are concerning this important public work.
