THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
FIGURES FOR EAST MONTH. Mr Petrie, local hemp grader, for the month of May graded 1318 bales of hemp. Out of this total 1155 bales were graded at the local port. This total shows an increase of 466 bales over the corresponding month of 1908. There has also been an increase of “Fair’’grade over the previous month. The weather has been bad for bleaching purposes with the result that millers suffered a loss in colour points. ,
In conversation with a Herald reporter Mr Petrie stated that it was very gratifying to note that unlike other centres there has been a considerable local increase of hemp milled.
