RETRENCHMENT.

Wellington, Last Night. The Government steamer Tutanekai will in future do only cable repairing work. She will lie in Wellington Harbour with a skeleton crew, which will be recruited for repairing expeditions as may be required. Another economy decided upon is the amalgamation of several Government publications, including the Mines Record, Insurance Recorder, and the Agricultural Department’s periodicals. It is stated that Mr G. Bissett, now editor of the Agricultural publications will have charge of the new and more comprehensive journal, and Mr P. Galvin, now editor of the Mines Record, will retire.
