The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, April 20, 1909. EDUCATIONAL.
Owing to what the Mauawatu Times calls the “incident at College Street school,” our contemporary makes an urgent call for the “ reconstruction of the education district and obtaining live representation on the Wanganui Board meantime in order to push claims.” The Feilding Star comments : So far as representation is concerned it would be difficult to find a more capable, energetic and whole-souled education administrator than Mr G. H. Bennett has proved to be, while Mr Alf. Fraser, of Foxton, one of his colleagues, is known as one of the best local body officials in the Dominion, and
his attention to educational matters is one of his outstanding attributes. The other member for the southern ward is the Chairman, but he, of course, is beyond the pale. The assertion that “ the Manawatu is tacked on to Wanganui,” is all the more ridiculous from the fact that only three members of the Board live on the Wanganui side of Martou and that at present there is actually not a single member of the Board living in Wanganui. To our mind it is Wanganui which is tacked on to the Manawatu iu educational matters.
