Borough Council nominations close on Thursday, April 22nd. A petition is being signed asking Cr Stiles to stand for the Mayoralty. It is probable that Mr Alex Speirs an ex-councillor will also be nominated. [Since the above was in print Cr Stiles has consented to stand.]
The steel twin-screw steamer Mapratta, 5730 tons gross, owned by T, and J. Brocklebank, Etd., grounded on the Goodwin Sands. Eileboats took off the passengers. A Press message from Dunedin announces the death of Captain Angus Cameron, a director of the Steam Ship Company. The deceased was about 80 years of age.
