CRICKET.

On Good Friday a local team journeyed to Shannon to play a return match with a team from the Miranui Club. The previous match between these two teams was played at Foxton earlier in the season and had resulted in a win for Miranui by a small margin. This time, however, Foxton was able to turn the tables and the game resulted in a win for them by seven wickets. The weather was rather wintry lor cricket, some very slight showers falling during the game which made the ball very slippery, and in the afternoon a very cold wind sprang up. Miranui batted first and put up a score of 77. The chief scorers being Doidge 13, Berquist 12, and Caithness 12. Tremewan, when these teams previously met, put up a score of 79 not out, was smartly caught by Peni when he had scored 6. The bowling of Foxton considering the greasy state of the ball was good, Death being most successful securing four wickets for 16 runs.

Foxton’s first innings closed for 63. Of this score no less than 22 were extras. Robinson 14 not out and Puti and Whibley 10 each were the only double figure scorers. A feature of the innings was the number of men who were run out. This was caused by the batsmen being tob anxious to make runs. With a lead of 14 on the first innings Miranui again went to the wickets, but could only put up a total of 30, of which Tremewan scored a third. Whibley four for three and Peni three for twelve were most successful with the ball.

Requiring 44 to win Foxton commenced their second innings and scored that number for the loss of three wickets, thus leaving them victorious by a margin of seven wickets.

The visitors were most hospitably entertained by the home team. The. following are the scores: —
