FRIENDLY SOCIETIES PICNIC.

The above picnic took place yesterday and the promoters were favoured with ideal weather. The steamer and punts left the wharf at 9.30 a.m, with a very large number ot picnickers aboard. Owing to a fresh in the river and a strong current, it was anticipated that Paiaka would not be reached. This proved correct. It was decided to disembark at the Crown Mill, which was reached shortly after 1 p.m. The committee, consisting of Messrs Woods, Heyes, Healey, R. Johnston, R. T. Dobson, W. Nye, A. Dudson and H. Hussey, lost no time in locating a suitable spot. Plenty of boiling water was soon ready and everyone enjoyed a hearty lunch. After satisfying the wants of the -inner man the fun commenced and some exciting racing was witnessed. Mr Woods officiated as starter, Messrs Healey and R. Johnston judges, and Mr R. T. Dobson, owing to the absence through sickness of Mr P, T. Robinson, officiated as secretary. Following are the winners:—

Girls under 12. —Robinson Robertson 2.

Boys under 12,—C. P. Podroore 1, W. K. Kruse 2.

Girls under 9 Swinburn 2. •

Boys under 9. —Weller 1, Walker 2.

Girls under 6. —Swinburn 1, Eacey 2, Desmond 3. Wrestling for boys under 12 years.—McDonald 1, Nye 2. Wrestling for boys under 10 years.—Kruse i, Mowat 2.

Boys under x6.—Haslett 1, Walls 2.

Married Women's Race,-—Mrs Desmond 1, Mrs Dudson, senr., 2. In this race two ladies had a fall, one being badly shaken. In the tug-of-war between teams picked from the Oddfellows and Druids, the latter showed their strength by beating the former.. Regret was expressed on iH sides that the Secretary, Mr P. Tj

Robinson, was unable to attend as hp is laid up. The boats arrived at the wharf on the return journey at 4.30 p.b.
