SHANNON DRUIDS LODGE.
The new Druids Hall at Shannon just erected at a cost ot ,£550 was officially opened on Thursday evening. There was an attendance of about 120 including a large number of visiting brethren. The Grand Lodge was represented by G.S. Bro. Grant and other lodges represented were Horowhenua, Palmerston, Otaki and 16 brethren from the Foxton Lodge. A meeting of the Shannon Lodge was held before the opening ceremony, when P.D. P. Bro. Thompson installed Bro. J. Batchelor as District President.
The ceremony of opening the new hall was performed by Grand Secretary Bro. Grant, after which all adjourned to the supper room where a first class spread had been prepared, and after a hearty repast the usual toast list was honoured. P.G.P. Bro. Gardener of the Horowhenua Lodge, delivered a lengthy address on Druidism and amongst other things referred to the necessity for preserving the initiation ceremony.
Bro. Woods of the Foxton Lodge in responding to the toast of sister lodges, said that he hoped the Foxton lodge would follow in the steps of Shannon, and would be able to erect a hall of their own in the near future.
During the evening songs were rendered by several of the brethren present. The Foxton brethren arrived home at 3 o’clock after having spent a most enjoyable time.
