FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The statutory meeting of the h'oxton Borough Council to confirm the District Electors’ Roll was held in the Council Chambers last night. Present : —'His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower Esq), and Crs Baker, Coley, Stiles and Jenks.
It was decided on the motion of Cr Stiles seconded by Cr Baker, that the District Electors’ List be now confirmed and signed by the Mayor and Crs Coley and Jenks. The tender of James Coley, for carting metal from Nye’s pit and from the railway station, was accepted.
Cr Stiles moved and it was seconded by Cr Jenks that any discussion relating to the unimproved rating and consideration of the petition forwarded by the Council, be held over until the next monthly meeting of the Council.
Cr Stiles said his reason for moving the resolution was that he thought it would be better to have the matter discussed by a full Council. Cr Baker would no doubt have a I>t to say on the subject, and i would be best to let all the Councillors hear his views.
Cr Baker said he would not have kept the Council long, unless he was drawn into a discussion. He was challenging the veracity of the Town Clerk’s letter to the Minister of Internal Affairs. However, he had no objection to the matter standing over until next meeting. The resolution was carried.
The final payment of .£127 16s 8d on account ot the Shannon bridge was passed for payment.
A letter was read from the secretary of the Presbyterian Church, asking for permission to put a crossing over gutter in front of Church property. Cr Jenks asked if it would be a concrete one. Cr Stiles: Certainly.
Cr Baker said it would be better for Council to do the work and charge the cost to the Church. Proposed by Cr Stiles seconded by Cr Baker that the application of the Presbyterian Church be granted for crossing, subject to the work being done by the Council according to regulations. The Council to charge the cost of same. —Carried. A letter was received from Messrs Coley and Bock and D. Purcell, asking the Council to put a new fence between the reserves leased by them and they would keep same in repair.—Held over until next meeting. The Council rose at 9 p.m.
