WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday evening. Present.—Messrs Pirani (chairman), Cargill, Purnell, Guthrie, Dixon, Fraser, and Bennett. The following resignations were accepted: I. Neilson (Queen’s Park), H. F. Gibson (Kakaramea), H. Park and E. Billens (Campbell Street), E. Murtagh (Patea), F. W. Scarrow (Raetihi), T. J. McCann (Clydesdale), I. P, Irons (Manutaki), E. M. Cody (Whenuakura), B. G. Elmslie (Eltham), V. Houeyfield (Taihape), C. H- E. Strack (Queen’s Park). Appointments. From Brunswick Committee, approving of appointment of T. R. Ritchie ; from Marton committee, approving of appointment of C. A. Stewart; from College Street committee selecting A. F. Barrell; from C. A. Stewart, declining appointment to Marton; from A. F. Barrell, declining appointment to College Street; from D. M. Rockell, declining to accept transfer to Ruahiue.—Received. The Finance Committee recommended the payment of accounts to the amount of 2s yd.

It was resolved that the Truaut Inspector’s attention be drawn to the Chief inspector’s remarks re attendance of children living on the Main Trunk line.

Resolved that the Board place on record its appreciation of the valuable work being done by Technical School Committees.

, From the Education Department stating that Parliament was not likely to alter the scale of salaries paid to assistants at the secondary department of D.H.S. schools, they being better treated than assistants at secondary schools.

It was resolved that the order for free reading books be divided between Messrs A. D. Willis and H. I. Jones and Son, and that the books be procured as quickly as possible. Longburu.—From the Longburn school committee drawing attention to the danger the children attending the Lougburn school ran on account of the proximity of the railway, and asking that the school be removed to another site. —Resolved to reply that application for a grant had been made to the Wellington School Commissioners, who would consider it at their next meeting.

College Street.—The Chief Inspector and Mr Bennett to report re additional accommodation at College Street school. Hautapu. —J. Clearer to be given 19s for improvements effected.on Hautapu site. Scholarship.—From Mrs Leonard asking that the scholarship won by her son be held over fqr six months;—Qranted. Makowhai.—From the Education Department declining to make a grant for extension at Makowhai. —Mr Fraser was authorised to have the alterations carried out to the Oroua Bridge school and to have skylights frosted at the local school.

The Board then adjourned till April yth.
