The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, March 2,1909. LICENSING BENCH ELECTION.
Seven candidates have been nominated to 1111 live positions on the Licensing Bench. An election lor the return of live will he held on the ylh hist. All those who voted at the general election are entitled to record their votes for the election of the licensing bench. Three of the candidates nominated are members of the present Bench, namely Messrs Simpson, Bowater and Perry. The No-License Council has selected the following ticket to represent the No-License and Moderate Parly ; Messrs Bowater, Hornblovv, Lethbridge, Perry and Simpson. Marlon is putting forward three candidates, Foxton, Feilding Road, Rougotea and Turakina one each. The policy of the ticket referred to will be continuation of 10 o’clock licenses and to force compliance with the licensing laws. The powers of licensing committees are comparatively limited, still they fulfil a very important function in governing the trade.
