SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC.

The annual picnic of All Saints’ Anglican Sunday school was held on Saturday last, in the grounds of Mr James Robinson's Silkworth, No, 2 Line. The children, teachers, some parents, and others interested were taken out in the morning and back in the evening in conveyances kindly provided by Messrs Wyeth, Geo. and H, Coley, and'C. Collins. The weather being ideally perfect, and all manner of things good to eat and drink having been supplied in lavish abundance by the parents of the children and other well-wishers, everything went “ merry as a marriage bell,” and the day’s outing proved a most pronounced success. The lady teachers, who had enlisted the well-tried experience and characteristic verve of Mrs W. S. Stewart, a former superintendent of the school, were indefatigable in ministering to the “ creature comforts” ol young and old, and their labours were duly appreciated. The sports programme drawn up by the superintendent, and consisting of 13 events, was gone through without a hitch, the vicar (the Rev. G. Y. Woodward) officiating as starter, and the superintendent with Master P. Coley as judges. We subjoin the results: —

Senior boys’ race: L. Burston 1, V. Betty 2. Junior boys’ race; Percy Robinson 1, Peter Robinson 2, Senior boys’ long jump; E. Burston 1, S. Moran 2. Junior boys’ long jump: C. Robinson 1, Will Easton 2. Senior girls’ race; No competitors. Junior girls’ race: Doris Small 1, Mary Procter 2. Skipping for senior girls: Elsie Robinson and Myra Wanklyh 1, (equal). Skipping for junior girls : Melva Collins i, Mary Procter 2. Race for very little boys: Stanley Collins 1, H. Clemett 2. Race for very little girls: Ada Tozer 1, Hilda Robinson 2. Skipping for very little girls: Hilda Robinson 1, Edna Collins 2. Tug of war (senior boys, 5 a side): Won after a stubborn fight by L. Burston’s team. Tug of war (junior boys, 5 a side) ; Won easily by J. Andrew’s team.

When the last race had been run and the last vacant space in the interior of the happy picnicers had been packed with refreshments, the vicar called upon Mrs Robinson to present the prizes to the winners, which that lady did with gracious courtesy, bestowing in addition on each of the delighted recipients, a winsome smile and pleasant word. Mrs Rodie awarded special prizes to the children in her class ; Mr Geo. Fowler’s handsome donation given to Mrs Stewart for prizes for each of the winners in the tug-of-war competitions, was highly appreciated and rapturously cheered. The vicar then made a short speech, congratulating the children on their good behaviour during the day, and thanking Mr and Mrs Robinson for the use of their grounds, the superintendent and teachers tor their faithfulness and zeal, the donors of gifts and prizes and lenders of conveyances, etc-, etc. Hearty cheers were then given for all and sundry, and the picnicers were taken back to town “ tired but happy,” not a single mishap having occurred to mar the pleasure of the day.
