S.M. COURT.

(Before A. D. Thomson S.M.)

At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Frank Spiers was fined 5s and costs 7s, for plying for hire without obtaining a carrier’s license- The offence being a breach of the Borough By-laws.

Thos. Mitchell was fined 2s and 7s costs for failing to send his boy to school in accordance with the Education Act.

Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following undefended civil cases:—A. J. Lett (Barnard) v. J. Young, claim £\ 14s 6d rent, costs 1 os; Manawatu Heraed (Barnard) v. Walter Anderson, claim £ 2, costs 6s ;E. E. Hussey (Barnard) v. M. O’Reilly, claim ;£x 12s 6d, costs 6s ; J. A. Nash v. H. Mcßriaerty, claim £1 9s 6d, costs £1 ns 6d ; R. H. Barber v. F. Spiers, £6 9s rod, by default for amount claimed less 10s paid into court, costs 24s 6d. In the defended lease, P. Johnston (Reade) v, Timothy Hayes, claim £8 10s for training racehorse, judgment was given for £4, and 15s costs. Frederick Spencer Easton, farmer and flaxmiller, for whom Messrs Cohen and Reade appeared, was charged with using abusive and threatening language to Constable Woods on the 4th inst. After hearing lengthy evidence, which is unavoidably crowded out of this issue, the Magistrate imposed the full penalty of £5 with costs and witnesses’ expenses.
