PRIMITIVE METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.
Presentation of Prizes by E. Newman, Esq., M.P.
There was a full attendance of children and a sprinkling of adults at the above schoolroom last night, when the annual prize distribution took place. A short programme had been arranged, and recitations were contributed by Evelyn Eangley, Gladys Walls, and Emma Cooper, interspersed with children’s hymns. The Rev, Mr Mairs suitably addressed those present, and introduced to them Mr Newman, M.P., who, on rising, was greeted with loud applause. Before formally presenting the . prizes, Mr Newman appropriately addressed the boys and girls, and stated that it gave him great pleasure on this, his first opportunity, as their representative in Parliament, of appearing before a juvenile audience of a like character. He tendered some good advice to the children, and related to them incidents in his own school days. He also read to them one of Kipling’s poems, u The Children’s Song. 1 ’ Much interest was evinced by the children, who, one and all, listened attentively throughout. Besides the ordinary and special book prizes, gold and silver medals were also presented. The intimation by Mr Newman, that it was his intention to award a special prize for the boy or girl who had the best influence on his or her fellowgchqlars during the coming year, was received with great jubilation by teachers and scholars alike. A vote of -thanks was passed ,by Mr Baker, superintendent, to the 'iV member, and carried by acclamation. Refreshments were partaken ft. of, and after the pronouncing of the benediction, the gathering uispersed. Podmore, C. Coley, and H. Read ; 2nd prizes also silver medals, L. Johnson, R. Coley, A. Bullard and -R, Bullard ; 3rd prizes. Misses D. Signal, E. Langley, C. Walsh, Masters M. Speirs, and G. Walsh.
