CRICKET.

The third round of the Austin Shield competition was commenced on the Park pitch yesterday afternoon, when Debaters defeated Himatangi by 42 runs on the first innings. , Debaters batted first and knocked up Wood 24 and Gordon 21, being the chief scorers. Witton was the most successful Himatangi bowler, securing six of Debaters wickets. Himatangi could only put up 23. There were no double figure scores, Thompson six, being the highest. Gordon was in good form with the ball accounting for seven wickets at a cost of only nine runs.
