TO FIGHT BRITISH SOCIALISM.
The Anti-Socialists of Great
Britain are embarking upon a remarkable campaign against So 4 - ,cialism and Labour. Of course, Socialistic ideals have always .been fought in the United Kingdom with much vigour, but up till now all of the organisation appear to have been on the side of Socialism. . The Socialists,Are reported to be holding meetings at the rate of 2000 a week, and their two principal organisations, the Independent La 1 our Party and the Social Democratic Party, have noo branches. The former alone spends about ,£75,000 a year, and the expenditure on Socialist organisation and propaganda in Great Britain is estimated to reach nearly a quarter of a million sterling annually. The new Anti-Socialist Union invites the co-operation of both Unionists and Liberals, although bow far the two old parties in British politics will combine against Labour’s forces remains to be seen. Probably it will be found, just as it has been in the Colonies,
that a considerable time will
elapse before an efficient fusion is brought about- The Anti - So- / cialisfiUnion is’providing classes for large numbers of professional and voluntary speakers to carry on its propaganda. Instruction is free. „ Oceans of printed matter are being prepared, and the services of such well-known writers as Mr Harold Cox, M.P., Mr J. L. Garvin, Dr J. Beattie Crozier and
Mr G. R, Sims have been enlisted. It is intended to publish series of articles in leading centres in all of the great industrial centres, and an intelligence department has been organised to collect and distribute the results of Socialistic experiments. An attempt is also to be made to establish branches and groups of Anti-Socialist Trades Unionists. The union is to take an active part at all bye-elections where Socialism is represented by a candidate.
