FOXTON RACES.

First Day.

The Foxton Racing Club is surely favoured by the gods, in that it always experiences salubrious weather for its annual meeting, and consequently a most satisfactory attendance of the public. Yesterday proved no exception to the rule, a cloudy sky tempering the possible too ardent attention of the sun, whilst a gentle breeze helped to keep even disappointed punters cool. The whole of the countryside was represented ou the course, while there was also a big contingent present from i Feilding and Palmerston, both trains being well patronised. Each of the events ou the programme were contested by big fields, and the racing was extremely good, several of the finishes being most exciting. White Star’s Cup was somewhat reminiscent of Ringleader’s win in the Cup several years ago, when he also won from end to end. The close finishes witnessed in the other events were a distinct tribute to Mr J. Henrys’ abilities as a lundicapper, and he received many congratulatory remarks thcieun during the day. The officials all worked like trojans to promote the success of the meeting, and that they weie quite equal to the occasion was the general opinion. Mr A. Keith, the Secretary, and his staff, weie also an fait iu their respective duties. During the afternoon the Foxton Band contributed a well - chosen programme of musical selections. Totalisator investments for the day totalled as against ,£8258 last year. Bookmakers’ fees totalled for the day. Appended are general details of the racing Maidi, Scenery and Lothair were the withdrawals from the Hack Hurdles, the latter arriving on the course too late to start. Reumac, Don Carlos and Moose were first off the mark and raced ou terms to the jump iu front of the stand, where Don Carlos, fell. Moose then took charge, and led to the five-furlong post, where Coy asserted himself, and galloping strongly, won easily by a length and a half, Whimper beating Reumac by a head for second place, and Moose was four lengths away, fourth, and the rest were badly beaten. All the acceptors went to the post in the Electric Handicap, North East carrying the bulk of the money, with Waitoto and Mendip next in demand. The field got away well together, but with a furlong gone, Marton was a clear length in front of Mendip and Awha. The latter pair closed up on the leader at the far turn, and at the home-bend Mendip was in front. In the run to the post Waitoto and Buoyant threw out strong challenges, but Mendip fasted long enough to wiu by a neck from Waitoto, Buoyant being half a length away, third. North East was fourth and Awha fifth. The latter was galloped on during the race, and cut on the near lock, the wound bleeding freely. The Cup was won from end to end by White Star (Daystar-Rejected),who hopped off the mark with the leaders, took charge at the stand, and was not headed, winning easily by a length and a half from Kilmarnock, who raced in the rear during the early stages of the race. Roosevelt after dropping back fifth or sixth at the five-furlong post, put in a great run from half-dis-tance, and might have troubled the winner had he been kept going. Stayboy, Waitapu, and White Die were never dangerous. A field of twelve went to the post in the Final Hack Handicap in which the public selected Fond Memory as the best goods offering, Clemora and Castigilione ranking as second and third favourites. The two latter had the event to themselves, Clemore leading his field by a clear length to the half distance, where the Birkenhead filly drew up on terms and won on the post by half a head, the Palmer-ston-trained Leolanter a couple of lengths away, third. Fond Memory was fourth, and after him came Kimmerian and Colussus. With the exception of North East, all the acceptors went to the post in the Awahou Welter, in which The Cockatoo was the public fancy, Maidi, being next in order. Liquid Air was responsible for the pace set, the Explosion filly leading the field by a clear length to the half-distance, where she was supplanted by the Hawke's Bayowned Cockatoo. After passing Liquid Air, T. Pritchard, on The Cockatoo, eased his mount, and Maidi, coming with a fast run on -the outside, cut the leader down on the post and won by a head. Billow was a close third, and Liquid Air a good fourth. Seven starters faded the tapes in the Flying Handicap, Kirsty going out a strong favourite, with Cute, a quiet paddock tip, next in demand. The locally-owned Lord Soult showed a dash of old form in the way he left the mark, and with Cute at his girths, showed the way to Leath- x ean and Lady Menschikoff to the home-turn, when each of the leaders was done with, and the other took up the running. a great race to the post resulted in favour of Lady Menschikoff by a head, Lethean close up third- Cute was fourth and Lord Soult’ fifth The Bona r-ide gelding, Genuine! had no difficulty in repeating his Rangitikei success in the Dash' Handicap, scoring very comfortably by a length from Cute, who - had also contested the previous event. Langshan was a good third Notorious fourth, and Bonnie Doon fifth. A field of eleven faced the starter iu the final event of the day From a good start, Mussel and Lothair were the first to get going, and they led Astraea, Rangihaeta and Flotilla by a length to the home turn, where Flotilla
