Wanganui, This Day. The Wanganui Education Board . met yesterday. Every member was present. . The resignations of Miss O. Stace, assistant at Lytton Street, Feildihg; Miss Rompey, head teacher; V. Jeffries, assistant at Westmere; and C. H. Einlayson, assistant at Feilding; were accepted.! The following transfers were made ; —P. G. Lewis, Awahou South ; T. R. Best, Ja.ckeytown ; Miss I. Wilson, temporary assistant at Queen’s Park ; W. J. Andrew, to Sedgebrook ; A. R. Barrowolough, to Lougburn (temporarily) ; High School, M. B. Bt’&nnand ; Sedgebrook, Miss Larson ; Moutoa, Miss Jameson; J. Hawthorne Gray, special assistant, Taihape; F. C. Campbell, Rangiwahia ; A. H. Evans, Liulon ; A. Goldsbury, • Linton - ; Galland, Moutoa ; C. Hills, Maxwell; P. Kime, Gonville ; P/Roache, Rata ; Browning, Rangitana ;■• Miss D. M. Rockell, Ruahine (assistant transferred to the Feilding district). A deputation, from the School Committees’ Association waited upon the board to ascertain what mea sure the board proposed to adopt with regard to the appointment of school teachers under the Amending Act of last session. The Chairman explained ;:that as far as the Board were concerned, they were bound-to comply with the Act, and that they intended in every case to fill vacancies by transfers when they had teachers in their service vyho were capable of filling the positions, and when they 7 had not, the positions would be advertised as before. In the latter case, the Act specified that four names should be sent on to the committees instead of six as hitherto. Under the transfer system the teachers had no right to appeal as a transfer was neither a suspension nor a dismissal. The two clauses for which teachers had the right to appeal against, the chairman stated, that the Board would at all times be pleased to receive suggestions from committees in regard to any appointments, aud that the Board would furnish the committees -with all necessary details before .any, appointments were made. The deputation when informed of the very complete system arranged, in respect to the. promotion of teachers, and after several questions had been asked and answered; thanked the Board for the information given and withdrew.
The Education Department wrote granting -an additional fifteen hundredrior the Wanganui district Jligh School, making three thousand five hundred in all. The Board resolved that in future the minimum qualification for the headmastership of a District High School shall be a Bi certificate, and that all headmasters at present in charge of such schools be informed that they are expected within the next twelve months to give proof that they are taking steps to conform to this standard. The Board made a large dumber of appointment and transfers under •;he new Act. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to 6s 6d.
