THE FOXTON-SANSON TRAM
Regarding the extension of the tram line to Bulls, the Chairman said at Wednesday’s meeting of the County Council that he would oppose any contribution being made to the cost of the work —,£2600 from the Mt. Stewart riding, but so far as the work.itself was concerned, he had no objection to the Council going on with it. The matter was held over to enable the Council to ascertain what the adjoining local bodies would be willing to contribute towards the cost.
The manager reported that traffic for November and December had shown an increase resulting in a credit balance of 7s 1 id. The figures for November were 2s fid, and;|# December xos nd. Special trams were run for the sports at Foxtou and for the school picnic at Sandon. The fares totalled ,£25 ixs fid. The traffic for the two mouths was as follows: Minerals 25 tons, general merchandise igi/{ tons, metal 105 cubic yards, wool 1717 bales, timber 98,7x0 feet. The Railway Department wrote stating that the Council’s proposal to make a deviation of the tram line at Himatangi was approved of, but any work which interfered with their running line must be done under the supervision of the Inspector of Permanent way, Palmerston North.
From same, sending copy of Inspector’s report on tramway as follows : This line has not been improved since my last inspection, only a little being done. There has been no relaying done. A number of small rails require renewing, and the curve at Sandon requires regauging in places. Weeds are very bajl all through. The qolb.’ track is fair.
