MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above was held at Sanson on WedInesday. Present: Crs J. G. i Wilson (chairman), R. B. McKenzie, Henson, Dalton and Kendall. Deave of absence was granted T to Cr Barber. From the Treasury, stating that the Prime Minister approved of the loan for 'draining the * southern portion of Block 1., Sandon Survey District, but as the amount already approved had reached the limit allowed by the Act, the money would not available for issue until after Marc® 31, 1909. From same, stating that subsidy, amounting to ,£937 10s, on rates Collected, had been remitted to the Council’s credit. The Treasurer reported the balances on the various accounts

to be as follows : —General ac-

count dr., 9s qd; loan acs count cr, 6s sd; net debit .balance, £2654 2s nd. The X. amounts available for expenditure ■X'to March 31, 1909 are: Sandon •’ll tiding, ,£133 18s 8d ; Waitohi, •X/74 1753 d; Rongotea, /16 5s 7d ; 'j Carnarvon, nsqd; Awahou, £S 2 103 6 d; Whirokino division, £6 4s. Amounts over expended.— Mount Stewart tiding, £7l 8s nd ; Kawa Kawa, ,£159 xßs 7d. The Overseer reported on -the Awahou Riding as follows Repairs have been effected, such as trimming in ruts on Elkin’s Motuiti, Karikari, and the FoxtonShannon road. A 12-inch pipe culvert is required to replace an old wooden culvert on the Foxton road near Motuiti. It was resolved that the Council give notice that all outstanding rates not paid at once be sued tor without further notice, and that the Clerk be authorised to take the necessary steps. That C. Martin’s tender of £2 2s per chain for forming and metalling 18 chains of the Taikorea road be accepted. That G. I. Mason’s tender of 4%d each of the supply of dog collars be accepted.
