The first match of the second round of the competition for the Austin Shield was played on the Victoria Park pitch yesterday afternoon, when the Foxton team secured an easy victory over Debaters. Nye (Foxton) won the toss and sent Debaters to the wicket. Their innings occupied two and a quarter hours, and when the last wicket fell the total was 93. The chief scorers were: Hoult 29, Betty 13, Stiles 12, and Young 11. Baillie was the most successful Foxton bowler securing four wickets for 12 runs. It had been previously arranged between the captains that stumps should be drawn at 6 p.m., and when the foxton team went to the wicket there was only an hour and a quarter left for play, and it did not seem possible with the slow outfield to put up the runs in the time. However the Foxton batsmen “got to work” and kept the Debaters fieldsmen busy, and when the umpires called time the score stood at 120 runs for one wicket. This constitutes a record for the local pitch. The following are the spores;— DEBATERS Ist Innings. Woods, c Robinson b W.
