Count Konigsmark, an officer of the German General Staff, after a prolonged lour in India, highly praises British rule in that Empire. He declares that the native army is able to take the field against European troops. New York, January 8.
The Tennessee “ Night-riders ” have been found guilty of murder. Six of them were convicted oi murder in the first degree, and were sentenced to be hanged on February 19th. Two were sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment. Sydney, January 9.
George Towns says that Barry will not come to Australasia this year, but may next year. He expects there will be a boom in rowing in England during the coming season.
Berne, January 8,
At a meeting of Swiss millers it was decided to boycott German trade, owing to disputes in regard to the “ dumping ” of cereals. Sydney, January 9.
Gray, the boy billiard - player, made a break of 454, of which 435 were off the red.
