AN AUDACIOUS ROBBERY.
£SO Stolen From Bank Counter. Wellington, This Day. A light-fingered person committed au audacious daylight robbery from the counter of the Bank of New Zealand. The enterprising robber made a haul of ,£SO, and made off with the money without leaving a trace behind him. It appears that a Government messenger was sent to the Bank of New Zealand yesterday morning with instructions to cash two cheques, one a Government cheque from the Treasury Department for £SO, and the other a private cheque on the account of a Government official. The messenger cashed the cheque for £SO first, and was handed in gold and £xo in silver, the money being in a small bag, which the messenger placed on a small table at which he sat whilst he counted the money given for the other cheque. On turning to pick up the bag the messenger found it had disappeared. The matter was repotted to the police, who are now making enquiries.
