HEAT AND BUSH FIRES.
Sydney, January 2. The heat wave is unabated. At Merindie the thermometer registered 118 degrees, and at Murwillumbah 119 degrees. Melbourne, January 2. A bush fire started at Shepparton, but a man returning from a factory succeeded in quenching it with tins of sour milk.
