ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Napier, January 3,
Joseph Wooster, aged about 30, employed as night porter at the Caledonian Hotel, Napier, committed suicide early this morning. He was found at about 6.30 a.m., in one of the armchairs in the sitting room, quite dead, with a ballet wound in his forehead, holding a revolver in his right hand and a cigarette in the other. He was a sober, steady, reliable man. His wife lives in Blenheim. There is no family.
Dunedin, January 3. A man named John Smith, a widower, 76 years of age, flaxmiller at Waihola, died suddenly at Romahapa yesterday. He went to Romahapa on January Ist to stay with a friend, and on Saturday went out for a walk by himself. In the evening he was found in an unconscious and dying - condition in the bush, and he expired about ten minutes later. Deceased has a daughter and two sons in Invercargill. Death is supposed to be due to apoplexy. Auckland, January 2.
Dr Orford Jones died last night, apparently as the result of an overdose of morphia. An inquest was opened this morning, and after evidence as to identification was adjourned till Januarj' 13. Wellington, Yesterday.
Adam M’Nab, formerly an engineer, but for the last 14 years unable to work owing to bronchitis and asthma, was found dead in his bed at No. 3 Pickering Terrace, Kaiwarra, at 3 p.m. yesterday. Dr M’Gavin found that death was due to natural causes.
