THE BEACH.
(Own Correspondent.)
During the past i few days our little settlement hasbeen the scene of a good deal of gaiety. On Tuesday Mrs Morgan had an impromptu party of young people, who thought dancing an ideal way of spending a wet afternoon. Accordingly, chairs and tables were shifted in quick time, and the boys and girls tripped the light fantastic to music supplied by Mr Beckman. The evening was devoted to cards and parlour games, some of which caused a good deal of merriment. On Thursday (New Year’s Eve) night, Miss Woods was the recipient of a monster surprise party. The guests arrived at an early hour, and danced till a little after 12 o’clock. Between the dances songs were rendered by Miss Hilda Wood, Messrs Belt, Holben and others. Special praise is due to Miss Cissie Belt and Miss Mildred Morgan for supplying the music. Mr Hall, our jovial pilot, caused a good deal of fun by singing in character, “ When the old man came home sober. ” The evening concluded with “ Auld Lang Syne,” and hearty cheers for Miss Wood. *■ * : . But the event of the season, in the form of a sports meeting, took place in Mr Hall’s paddock ’ on Saturday. In spite of the inclement weather, a splendid crowd rolled up and had a good time—the little ones especially having no end of fun.
