BURNS—JOHNSON FIGHT.
Restrictive Legislation
Promised
Sydney, December 31
The Chief Secretary (Mr J, Hogue) states that the Government will take action in the event of any further contests similar to that between Burns and Johnson. It is imperative to prevent socalled boxing contests from developing into contests of sheer brutality. Burns is coming to New Zealand for the purpose of giving boxing exhibitions.
London, December 31
Burns has cabled to the Sporting Life that Johnson’s seconds influenced the police intervention in the Sydney fight. Burns adds that he was strong, and always had a chance, as Johnson was tiring. He is willing to again fight Johnson. The Sportsman says that Burns’s challenge to Johnson is considered a joke, - and that the charge against Johnson’s seconds is “ childish, mean, contemptible, and quite unfounded,”
