A SHOOTING CASE.
Invercargill, Dec. 21.
At the Police Court, Maud Buchanan, a married woman, was charged with attempting to murder Vera McKay. The evidence showed that strained relations existed between the accused and the McKays. On Monday evening at a quarter to eight McKay, his two daughters and a friend were leaving their house by motor car when accused appeared at the gate and fired six shots in quick succession from a revolver, one striking Vera McKay on the arm and two others lodging in the body of the car. A witness stated that when seized accused mumbled “Yes, yes, I’m glad.” Her eyes had a terrible expression and be did not think she was responsible for her actions. D. McKay deposed that accused’s grievance against his family was that she had been slighted and not treated with proper consideration. Accused was committed for trial.
