HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A well attended meeting of members of the above Society was held in the Secretary’s office on the 15th inst. Mr Alex. Speirs presided. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A list of prize winners at the recent show was submitted, and considered satisfactory. Accounts in connection with the show were passed for payment. On the motion of Mr Bullard, seconded by Miss Ross, the hon. secretary was voted a bonus ot five guineas. It was resolved to forward letters of thanks and appreciation to the judges who officiated at the show. It was resolved that Mr Gower's third special prize, xos, for collection of birds eggs, be made up to 21s. The Secretary was instructed to issue certificates, and award prices won at the show. A letter of thanks was authorised to be sent to Mr Hennessy for his gift of a glass case to the Society. It was decided to give each member of the committee a copy of the group photographed.
Votes of thanks were tendered to Messrs W. Ross and Hornblow for donations.
The matter of holding an autumn show was discussed at length. It was pointed out that Such a show would meet the wishes of local farmers. It was decided to hold the subject over till the annual general meeting, to be held in January, when it is expected there will be a large attendance of members present. After transacting v other formal business, the meeting rose.
