SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held in the schoolhouse on Thursday. Present: Mtssrs Hennessy, Betty, Henderson, Bullard, Read, Perreau and Rev. G. K. Aitken (secretary). Apologies for absence were receiued from the Chairman and Mr Geo. Coley. Mr Hennessy occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and correspondence received.

A sum ot one guinea each from Messrs G. Coley and P. J. Hennessy as donations to the prize fund, were received with thanks.

The work of the school cleaner was favourably commented upon. Mr Hennessy (visitor) reported that birds found their way into the quadrangle from the roof. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Board, asking that the necessary work be done to abate the nuisance.

The headmaster reported that the attendances for the month were as follows : —239, 239, 243, 248 and 247 ; roll number: 279. The report was adopted, and on the motion of Mr Betty, seconded by Mr Henderson, the headmaster was accorded a vote of thanks on the result of the recent examinations.

On the motion of Mr Perreau, seconded by Mr Read, it was resolved to ask the Board to instal gas in-the headmaster’s residence. Several accounts were passed for payment. On the motion of Mr Aitken, seconded by Mr Hennessy, it was resolved to institute a prize fund, and that a day be fixed at next meeting for the distribution of prizes.—Carried. The subject of giving the children a picnic was discussed at length. A motion that the children be given a trip to the Manawatu Gorge was lost. It was resolved to give the children a picnic at the Beach.

It was decided that the Chairman explain matters to the child-

Mr Fossey, director of technical education for the southern district, was present, and discussed matters in connection with the technical school. His action re establishing technical classes was endorsed, and he was accorded a vote of thanks for his energetic services. Matters in connection with the the proposal to convert the school into a District High School, were discussed and held over till a further meeting, the Secretary in the meantime to ascertain the probable number likely to attend.

The Chairman and Mr Henderson were appointed visitors for the month, and the meeting rose.
