CHRISTMAS TREE AND SOCIAL.
A Christmas Tree and social under the auspices of the Methodist Church, took place In the Masonic Hall last night, and, despite the rain, was very well attended. The interior of the hall was nicely decorated with flags, Chinese lanterns, etc., and a huge Christmas tree, laden with toys, towered up from the floor to the ceiling. Proceedings were opened with a musical programme. Vocal items were rendered by Mrs J. Robinson, Misses Barber, and Signal, and Messrs Signal}, Sheratt and Rimmer. Mr Barrovvclough’s (the popular Moutoa schoolmaster) elocutionary efforts were particularly well received. After the concert programme had concluded “ Father Christmas” was announced. The old fellow, in the person of Mr Alex. Saunders, was got up in the orthodox fashion and carried a big load on bis shoulder. Pie greeted the children and promised that he would pay them another \isit on Christmas Eve. After Father Christmas bade the youngsters a cheery good night and wished them a Merry Christmas, the sale of toys on the tree took place and in a short time with a few exceptions, were quitted. Supper was banded round and a most enjoyable evening’s amusement was brought to a close.
