TRIP IN THE ARCTIC.
Expedition to Sail on an ice Floe. Mr Evelyn B. Baldwin, the Arctic explorer has decided to make a trip in the Polar regions on an ice floe (says the New York correspondent of the London Daily Express). He will embark on the floe in Behring Strait and drift with the ocean currents to Greenland. The voyage will require three and a half years. Mr Baldwin intends to organise an expedition comprising twentyfive followers, including scientists and artists. They will erect a camp on the ice and take an immense store of prbyisions for the vogage. They will not take a boat, as Mr Baldwin says it would be useless in any circumstances.
The explorer, who has made a careful study of Arctic currents, says he is convinced that they do not vary, and that they will certainly carry the expedition to Greenland, as the floes do not break before reaching that coast. He states that the journey will be less dangerous than by boats, which would most probably be crushed in the ice.
Admiral Melville endorses the plan. Sir Purdon Clark told the correspondent in question that while he had discussed the project, he had not sufficient technical knowledge to give a positive opinion whether it was feasible. President Roosevelt had;arranged an audience with Mr to learn the full details.
