MR HALL-JONES.

Timaku, November 28,

A social gathering in honour of the Hon. W. Hall-Jones, organised by his old election committee, was held last evening. The Minister was presented with a smoker’s companion, and Mrs Hall-Jones with a toilet stand, as souvenirs of their long electoral relations. Mr Hall-Jones made a few remarks on his hopes of continuing to serve New Zealand as usefully in his new as he had in his old sphere. He leaves for Wellington to-day. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones returned to Wellington from Timaru on Sunday. He resigned yesterday the portfolios of Railways and Public Works, and will commence his term of office as High Commissioner for New Zealand. He will leave for London by the Corinthic on Thursday.
