A NELSON SUICIDE.
Nelson, Nov. 28,
Mr W. Biddle, whose body was found in an orchard in St Vincent Street last night, had been in bad health for years, suffering from insomnia and nervousness. The following note was found scribbled in a pocket-book : “ Dear Wife, —I have another fit. Tasted some of this lead, and feel far too ill to walk home. I called out, but can make no one hear.”
Deceased bad removed some ot the contents of a jar of arsenate ot lead, kept for spraying, and had some of it in his pocket.
' At the inquest the medical evidence showed that deceased had swallowed a quantity of arsenate of lead, used for spraying fruit trees. He suffered from insomnia and had been greatly depressed of late. A verdict of “suicide whilst temporarily insane” was returned.
