A CARNIVAL OF AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY

Is what might be applied to the three days Show to be held on November the 4th, sth, and 6th, at Palmerston North by the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The comprehensive nature of a Show of this description affords many valuable opportunities to the live stock breeder and merchant to effectively reach the agriculturalist and pastoralist. Those engaged in these industries devote much attention to a big Show like that at Palmerston North, where the cream of live stock is represented from most parts of the Dominion in the Show Pens, and at a glance one can gather what is being done by breeders in the breeding of stock and the time spent in a close inspection, is a most valuable factor in agricultural education. It is evident that this is recognised by the committee of the above Association for in a most liberal manner have they catered for all divisions to induce competition and assist in building up the industries which come under its scope. The extensive nature of this Show can be gathered from the number of classes provided : —Horses 70, cattle 72, sheep 11 r, pigs 39, dogs 142, utility poultry 60, Arts and Industrial photography 7, Art and Technical Schools 53, Public Schools 38, needlework 48, home cookery etc, 35. Exhibitors at this Show in all departments praise the studious attention given to the care of the stock and general exhibits every year, and judging from the many improvements effected, the work of the Association is not lacking in progress. Remembering the development iu agricultural settlement and extension of the North Island Main Trunk Railway aud increasing demand for well-bred stock of all kinds, the success of which will assist to make this Dominion truly great; it will not be a surprise if the coming Show is a distinct advance on those of previous years. Those intending to exhibit are reminded that all entries, except live stock, close on October the 9th, and that all live stock entries close on October the 16th, 1908.
