THE RIVER COMMISSION

The River Commission completed its sittings at Foxton last evening after taking considerable evidence. The Chairman stated that further evidence may be taken, but we are of opinion that all the bush river engineers have exhausted their schemes and the ancient river has continued to flow and channel and scatter particles of old mother earth, undisturbed by the evidence tendered at the solemn conclave. Palmerston, ever alive to its own interests, has stirred up this question, but it is questionable whether anything further than sectional control will be satisfactory. The finding of the Commission will be awaited with interest.
