DOMINION DAY.

In response to a telegram from the Premier suggesting that Dominion Day be celebrated in a fitting manner locally, the Borough Council at its last meeting decided to leave the matter in the hands of the tradespeople. Up to the present, however, no steps have been taken to observe the day as a public holiday. A suggestion was made that the children attending the local school be entertained at the Park on Saturday afternoon and receive the medals, but Saturday is a very inconvenient day for such a purpose and we are afraid the movement will be allowed to lapse.
